Mr. Nelson specialized in banking with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) where he was a supervising senior. In the Chicago office, he audited a number of community banks. In the Milwaukee office, he ran the audit of First Wisconsin, a predecessor of U.S. Bank, spending about nine months of the year at the bank.Mr. Nelson then became a broker of commercial real estate, and handled what was at the time the largest sale in Wisconsin history. From there, he moved in hotels, becoming the first franchisee of Residence Inns and the second franchisee of Hampton Inns. He participated extensively in the development of a luxury condominium tower in downtown Chicago. He later became the CFO and co-owner of a hotel management company operating nearly fifty hotels. He has also been involved in several start-up businesses with strong technology components.Mr. Nelson attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which he obtained a BBA with a major in accounting and an MBA with a majors in both finance and accounting. He graduated with highest honors.
